Duties of a Building Official

From the Morgantown Municipal Codified Ordinances:

1701.02 Duties of Building Official

(a) The Building Official is hereby authorized and directed to enforce the provisions of this Article. The Building Official shall have the authority to render interpretations of this Article and to adopt policies and procedures in order to clarify the application of its provisions. Such interpretations, policies and procedures shall be in compliance with the intent and purpose of this Article and the State Building Code. Such policies and procedures shall not have the effect of waiving requirements specifically provided for in this Article on the State Building Code. The Building Official shall have all of the duties and powers set forth in the State Building Code.

(b) It shall be the duty of the Building Official to see to the enforcement of all ordinance provisions relating to zoning and to inspect all buildings or structures being erected or altered, as frequently as may be necessary to insure compliance with City ordinances. The Building Official shall not have the authority to issue citations for violations of the City's zoning ordinance. The Building Official and inspectors within the Building Inspection Department may issue citations for violations of the City's Building and Housing Code. Each and every day during which any such violation continues shall be deemed a separate offense, unless otherwise set forth in said code.
