Refuse and Recycling Contract

Refuse and Recycling Contract

In April 2018, the City of Morgantown entered into a new five-year refuse and recycling contract with its current service provider, Republic Services of West Virginia. The biggest changes affecting residents in the new contract include billing and e-recycling. In March 2018, the City of Morgantown and the Morgantown Utility Board (MUB) entered into a Memorandum of Agreement, which authorized MUB to manage solid waste (garbage) billing services on behalf of the City.

Service Issues

All service quality issues, such as missed pickups, etc., should be promptly reported to Republic Services at 304-366-8900 or through the City’s Citizen Request Tracker. The City will assist residents by passing on service issues to Republic for proper handling. To report a service quality issue to the City, please visit our Citizen Request Tracker page and fill out the Garbage Service Issues form under the Neighborhood Services section. Submitting the form via the city's Citizen Request Tracker will create a document of the issue and allows you to be notified when action has been taken on your issue.

Billing Changes

Beginning May 1, 2018, all residential customer billing for solid waste services in Morgantown city limits will be handled by the Morgantown Utility Board. Any billing related questions regarding residential solid waste services should be directed to MUB, not Republic Services. All commercial solid waste billing and service issues should still be directed to Republic Services. This means that residents will now be able to pay their garbage bills over the phone, online, or through automatic payment using MUB’s current invoicing system.

This change is being implemented to save costs while making garbage billing and service more convenient, efficient and accountable for city residents. MUB and the City will ensure fees for service is collected, which should ensure that all residential waste is collected promptly.

Solid waste services will be billed following MUB’s current billing schedule, which is every other month. MUB bills in arrears, so customers will begin their solid waste billing service with MUB at a $0 (zero) balance. The monthly solid waste fees, which are set by the City, are scheduled for the next five years. You can view these monthly rates in the table below.
