On June 14, 2018, at approximately 0257 hours, a Morgantown Police Officer observed a traffic violation in the downtown area involving a white Chevrolet Impala. The officer activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle, and the vehicle fled the area by traveling south on South High Street at a high rate of speed. At that time, the officer discontinued pursuit of the vehicle. A few moments later, the vehicle crashed at the intersection of South High Street and Dorsey Avenue. The driver of the Chevrolet Impala went through the guardrail at that intersection and landed in the Oak Grove Cemetery causing damaging to at least one headstone. The driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot in the First Ward area. Several Morgantown officers were in the area and after a brief foot pursuit, Tyrone Terrell Jackson was taken into custody without incident.

Tyron Jackson, 34 years old, of Clarksburg, WV, was taken into custody and transported to the police department where he was charged with fleeing with reckless indifference to the safety of others, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute heroin, and possession with intent to distribute hydrocodone. After Jackson was processed, he was transported to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office to await his arraignment.
