[ARCHIVED] Morgantown Police Remind Residents to Properly Restrain Pets

News Release Logo v2 - FB

The Morgantown Police Department is reminding pet owners that it is prohibited to allow dogs to run at large or to run on another person’s property.

When walking a dog on public property, it is required that the dog be restrained by a leash no longer than six (6) feet in length and that the dog have a collar that contains the name and address of the owner. Dogs are also always required to wear a City of Morgantown tax tag.

Anyone who encounters an animal running at large or off their leash can call 911. The 911 center will dispatch the closest available officer to the call as well as notify the Monongalia County Animal Control Officer of the incident.

Additionally, pet owners are reminded that it is their responsibility to remove any feces deposited by their animals on any public area or private property that is not owned or leased by the pet owner.

The Morgantown Board of Parks and Recreation (BOPARC) maintains two separate Dog Parks where dogs are allowed to run without a leash. They are located at Krepps Park and Deckers Creek Trail. More information about the dog parks can be found at http://www.boparc.org/dog-parks.html.
