City of Morgantown 2021 Municipal Election Materials Available
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Today marks the beginning of the City of Morgantown Municipal Election season. On April 27, voters will select city council members and decide whether to change council term limits from two-year concurrent terms to four-year staggered terms.
The following election materials are now available on the city’s election webpage or at the City Clerk’s office:
If you wish to run for Morgantown City Council, candidate packets are now available online and at the City Clerk’s office. In order to promote safe distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19, candidate packets can be sent electronically if requested. Candidates can print and complete the Certificate of Announcement form themselves and send it to the City Clerk’s office by email or mail – no in-person contact with others required. Candidates may also request a packet containing a nominating petition form from the City Clerk’s office which provides an appropriate amount of space for signatures. If desired, candidates may also turn in their Certificate of Announcement in person at the City Clerk’s office. Any individual can run for city council as long as they are a qualified voter at the time of the election and they live in Morgantown city limits.
The City Clerk’s office is open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Candidate nomination petitions must be filed with the City Clerk by Feb. 8.
Absentee Ballot Applications:
The City Clerk’s office is now accepting applications for Absentee Ballots for the 2021 Municipal Election. Absentee Ballot Application forms can be obtained from the Election Information webpage and mailed to or dropped off at the City Clerk’s office.
