Morgantown to Celebrate Independence Day on July 1st
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The City of Morgantown will be hosting its annual free Independence Day Celebration at Hazel Ruby McQuain Park on Saturday, July 1st.
The Park will open to the public at 5 p.m. with the Independence Day Celebration beginning at 7 p.m. Festivities will include a live musical performance, food truck vendors, face painting and space for families to relax and enjoy the atmosphere.
“We are excited to have a patriotic program that celebrates our nation’s independence,” said Vincent Kitch, Director of Arts and Culture for the City of Morgantown. “With the 4th of July falling on a Tuesday this year, we decided to celebrate on Saturday, July 1st, so everyone will be able to attend the event and enjoy our famous fireworks display.”
A fireworks show will be held at dark (around 9:45 p.m. to 10 p.m.) to complete the evening’s festivities. Attendees should be prepared for an influx of traffic in the downtown area due to the evening’s events.
The Air National Guard Bands of the Northeast will perform during the event. The band’s repertoire includes a mix of wind band music including Americana, movie themes, jazz favorites, classical and contemporary band music, and popular marches. The Concert Band regularly features its world class musicians with instrumental and vocal solos.
The band performs as a Concert Band, Ceremonial Band, “High Altitude” Popular Music Ensemble, “Brass in Blue” Brass Quintet, “Flightline Brass” New Orleans Style Brass Band, “In Flight” Woodwind Quintet and “Spectre Bones” Trombone Quartet.
“I’m looking forward to a day filled with good food, music, and celebrations with friends and family. Thank you to all of our sponsors that have worked with us to make these festivities possible,” said Kitch.
Additional sponsors for the event include Monongalia County and Visit Mountaineer Country CVB.
Another upcoming event that is free to the community is the annual Shakespeare in the Park performance which will take place on June 30th tentatively at 7 p.m. The group, The Rustic Mechanicals, West Virginia’s only professional Shakespeare troupe, will be performing their rendition of The Comedy of Errors.
