The Development Services Department is responsible for assisting clients through the development process as well as administering the City’s federal Community Development Block Grant (C.D.B.G.) program. The development process includes reviewing, permitting, inspecting, and granting approvals to develop land and occupy buildings within the City of Morgantown. More specifically, the Planning Division and the Code Enforcement Division are responsible for subdivision administration, zoning administration, building code administration, rental housing registration, and sign regulation. The Community Development Division is responsible for working with public agencies and local housing and social service providers to implement the City’s C.D.B.G. program goals and objectives to improve the quality of life for all residents.
The Department also provides administrative and technical support to boards and commissions that direct and review issues on land development and construction regulations. These boards include the Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, ICC Board of Appeals, and City Council.
In addition to protecting public health, safety, and welfare through the administration of land development and construction regulations, the Department seeks to provide an efficient and effective development process that supports City growth and economic and community development.
