The City of Morgantown has contracted with Coastal Drilling East LLC, to begin road repairs on Jacobs Street, beginning at 7 a.m. on Jan. 2, 2018.
There is a 90-day construction deadline, but it is estimated that construction will take 28 days.
“The project was needed due to hillside slipping which has impacted the roadway, the project should be completed relatively quickly and shouldn’t impact residents in the area too much," said Alex Stockdale, Assistant City Engineer. “We ask that residents be patient as we complete the repairs.”
The construction will require lane closures, resulting in potential traffic congestion. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and use alternate routes if available.
Parking on Jacobs Street will also be impacted. Citizens are strongly encouraged to park on Cornell or Price Street, as you may not be able to get in and out of some parking areas on Jacobs Street during construction.
No parking signs will be posted in specific areas 48 hours prior to the removal of parking. After 48 hours, all cars parked in no parking areas will be towed at the owner’s expense.
Construction will not occur on weekends or after 5 p.m. on the weekdays. Once construction is completed, the road will re-open to normal traffic.
Funding for the repairs comes from the contingency fund and are estimated to cost $160,810.
