[ARCHIVED] City Launches Plan-It Geo Map Enabling Residents to Track City Trees

News Release Graphic

MORGANTOWN, W.V. – The City of Morgantown Urban Landscape Department and the Morgantown Tree Board have worked together over the past several months preparing to launch a new website, which allows residents to view a map of all city owned trees.

The Plan-It Geo interactive map is now available and can be used to locate and identify trees around the city. When locating trees on the map, residents are able to look at the eco benefits of each tree, including its effect on air quality, property value, storm water management and energy conservation. Plant-It Geo also allows residents to identify the type of tree and the tree identification number in the city’s inventory.

“The most beneficial part of this service to the residents of Morgantown is the ability to view which trees are on public or private property without having to contact the city directly,” said Marchetta Maupin, Urban Landscape director.

Since 2011, the Urban Landscape Commission, Engineering Department, and Tree Board have been working in partnership with the USDA Forest Service and the West Virginia Division of Forestry to create a full inventory of trees within the public right-of-way.

Additions and adjustments are still being made to this list and residents can expect changes to the Plan-It Geo map as the city continues to update it.

Residents are encouraged to use this service to keep track of trees in their area that they may have questions about. The Plan-It Geo map can be found by visiting the Tree Board webpage or by visiting For more information please contact the Urban Landscape Department at 304-284-7422.
