MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - City Council approved leases for the Shack Neighborhood House and the Mountaineer Homeschool Hub in the former Woodburn School.
The Shack Neighborhood House will have a 5,313 square foot space, which includes a ground floor activity room, three classrooms on the first floor, one classroom in the basement, kitchen, freezer room, pantry, and use of shared space including restrooms and hallways. The Shack Neighborhood will use the new space to provide programs for the low-moderate income families in the community.
“The Shack is very excited to expand our services and further our reach throughout the City of Morgantown and Monongalia County,” said Shawnda Cook, executive director of the Shack Neighborhood House. “We see a tremendous need for after-school and youth programs as a supplemental offering to children in our community.”
The Mountaineer Homeschool Hub will use 1,215 square feet. The leased space includes one classroom on the first floor, two offices in the basement, and use of shared space including restrooms and hallways. The Mountaineer Homeschoolers will use the classrooms and office space for the educational needs of homeschoolers and their families.
“We are excitedly looking forward to our new location at the former Woodburn Elementary School,” said Angie Channell, president of the Mountaineer Homeschool Hub. “This move will allow us to continue to provide enrichment classes to K-12 students and homeschooling support to their parents and guardians. We hope to host a grand re-opening to welcome the new families and say “Hello” to our new neighbors.”
The Shack Neighborhood House and the Mountaineer Homeschoolers Hub begin their leases on July 7.
