City of Morgantown Selects Location for New Fire Station

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The City of Morgantown recently received $6M in Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) to fund a replacement facility for the current South High Fire Station.

The City has selected a piece of property at the corner of Don Knotts Boulevard and Prairie Avenue as the proposed location for the new station. Acquisition of the property will be brought to City Council for consideration on January 2 and again on January 16, 2023.

Due to CDS funding, the City will also obtain SHPO approval, tribal review, Environmental Reviews, etc. The property would be acquired with capital escrow funds.

“This new location will allow quick, direct access to Don Knotts Boulevard,” said Assistant City Manager Emily Muzzarelli.

The City of Morgantown worked closely alongside the Morgantown Fire Department to evaluate existing and new locations as it pertains to response times, size accommodations, and more.

“The Morgantown Fire Department is appreciative of Senators Capito and Manchin for their support,” said Fire Chief Eugene Deem. “This new, larger facility will be a central asset to protecting the residents of Morgantown for decades to come.”
