Arbor Day Celebration Set for October 19 at Jack Roberts Park
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The City of Morgantown and Morgantown Board of Parks and Recreation (BOPARC) will celebrate Arbor Day on Oct. 19, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Jack Roberts Park. Officials invite the community to attend this special occasion. The event will begin with the reading of the Arbor Day proclamation, followed by the planting of a White Oak, Red Maple, and White Dogwood on the Lawnwood Street side of the park.
After the tree planting, the Morgantown Tree Board will host an educational tree walk, offering insights into the importance of trees and their care. Morgantown’s Urban Landscape Director Marchetta Maupin hopes residents will participate in this celebration of nature and community.
"Trees are essential to our ecosystem. They clean our air, filter our water, and play a substantial role in reducing stormwater runoff," Maupin said. "Trees provide shade and cool our cities by up to 10 degrees, while beautifying our city. We welcome everyone to join us."
Considering the four-acre park’s open green space, BOPARC is pleased to co-host this event in one of the most popular gathering spots in Morgantown.
"We are excited to partner with the City of Morgantown and the Tree Board for Arbor Day,” BOPARC Division Director of Marketing and Communications Bree Starsick said. “This is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community to celebrate the importance of trees and their impact on our environment.”
