City Clerk of Morgantown Deems Amended Petition for Referendum Sufficient
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The city clerk of Morgantown has officially deemed an amended petition for referendum sufficient in regard to a recent ordinance regulating camping on public property. This petition includes the required number of valid signatures from at least 10 percent of the total number of qualified voters registered during the last regular City election, which amounts to 1,310. Upon reaching the required number of verified signatures for sufficiency, the city clerk concluded her findings. As a result, the certificate of sufficiency will be presented to City Council on November 20, 2024.
The upcoming council meeting will give officials the opportunity to address the ordinance. Following discussions, council will have the final determination on how to proceed. They may choose to repeal the ordinance, or the referendum will be placed on the City’s election ballot in April.
The City of Morgantown will provide more information as it becomes available.
