City of Morgantown Provides Storm Update: Public Safety Remains Top Priority
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The City of Morgantown's fire department, local law enforcement, and public works crews swiftly responded to the recent severe storm activity, as reported by Interim City Manager, Damien Davis.
"Their services have been instrumental in addressing various incidents caused by the extreme weather conditions," explained Davis.
City crews have been actively working to secure roads, reset traffic lights, and remove approximately 24 downed trees as part of the ongoing storm cleanup effort. While many residents are still without power, the city anticipates that services will be restored by tomorrow, according to notifications from Mon Power.
"Our number one goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents and visitors at all times by quickly responding to emergency situations," said Davis.
As of this morning, sections of Arch Street and Riverview Drive were closed due to downed power lines. Arch Street is now open. The city is asking residents to report any storm damage, including downed trees, needed street sign and light repairs, and other concerns within city limits. This can be done through the Morgantown 311 mobile app.
For emergencies, residents are reminded to call 911. For non-emergency incidents that may not require immediate intervention, the Monongalia County Centralized Command Center (MECCA) 911 provides a 24/7 non-emergency line at 304-599-6382.
"We would like to thank our community for their patience and cooperation during this challenging time and urge everyone to stay safe," stated Davis.
