City of Morgantown Reminds Citizens of Municipal Election
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Early voting for the Morgantown Municipal Election has ended with 716 ballots cast. Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 29, 2025, is the City’s official election day, and the last day to cast your vote in person for this year’s election. Polls will open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m. Canvassing (a post-election process of confirming election results of precincts) is scheduled for May 5. The 2025 ballot includes elections for council seats in the second, fourth, and sixth wards. The candidates are as follows:
- Second Ward: Jodi Hollingshead
- Fourth Ward: Jenny Selin
- Sixth Ward: Stephanie Hunt and Mark Downs
All registered voters in the City of Morgantown are eligible to vote for candidates in all wards up for election, regardless of their residential ward. A collective majority vote will determine the elected representative for each ward.
In addition to the council elections, voters will also consider two ballot initiatives:
1. The first initiative proposes a charter amendment allowing City Council to approve the city manager residing outside the City while in office. A “YES” vote indicates support for this amendment, while a “NO” vote indicates opposition.
2. The second initiative addresses a referendum concerning Ordinance No. 2024–29, which enacts a new Article 1157 of the City Code titled "Camping on Public Property." A “YES” vote would remove this ordinance from the City Code, while a “NO” vote would allow the ordinance to remain in effect and enforceable after 30 days post-vote. Once the election concludes and the City Clerk’s office has produced a final report, the name of the winning candidate for each ward will be announced and ballot initiative results will be shared as well. The tallying of the unofficial results will be broadcasted via the City of Morgantown's YouTube channel.
