Firefighters Rescue Residents and Pets from Early Morning Apartment Fire


MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Firefighters from the Morgantown Fire Department (MFD) responded to a structure fire with possible entrapment at a three-story, 13-unit apartment building at the end of Dille Street at approximately 4:52 a.m. this morning.

Members of C Crew from the Northside Station, led by Firefighter First Class Thadius Dalton, immediately responded to the fire. Working swiftly and in coordination with officers of the Morgantown Police Department (MPD), responders safely evacuated all occupants—including three cats and a dog—within six minutes.

One resident was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and non-life-threatening injuries.

The fire was brought under control at 6:26 a.m. by Incident Commander Lt. Ashley Jenkins. The building sustained significant fire damage.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing and is being conducted by MFD fire marshals.
