City of Morgantown Announces Events and Community Engagement Activities for Municipal Government Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - As part of Municipal Government Week, the City of Morgantown will host a sensory-friendly Touch-a-Truck event for Mountainview Elementary School students on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025, from 9 a.m. to noon in the school’s parking lot.

The event offers children a hands-on opportunity to explore real-life vehicles and equipment. Students will also have the opportunity to meet city personnel who serve and support the community. Featured vehicles and equipment will include:

  • Police cruiser
  • Fire truck
  • Bucket truck
  • Dump truck
  • Excavator
  • Parking Authority vehicle and boot
  • IT equipment
  • Backhoe
  • Airport vehicles
  • Urban Landscape water truck
  • GIS equipment

Although the Touch-a-Truck event is a private event for Mountainview Elementary School students, the city welcomes additional elementary and middle school students, along with community residents, to take part in a Coloring Contest and a Photography Contest designed to inspire community engagement.

Please click HERE for contest details.

The Coloring Contest invites elementary and middle school students to showcase their creativity and celebrate their community through art, with the top three entries from each grade level displayed at City Hall and recognized at a future City Council meeting.

Meanwhile, the Photography Contest invites residents to submit images that capture the spirit, beauty, or everyday life of Morgantown. Selected photos will be featured in a rotating slideshow on the City Hall TV display, shared on social media, and honored with a certificate of acknowledgement from the city.

The city is also planning a Read-a-Book Series featuring pre-recorded readings by city leadership. These videos will highlight themes of civic engagement and community heroes and will be shared daily on the city’s social media channels throughout Municipal Government Week.
