City of Morgantown Plans Second Annual GIS Day Celebration

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The City of Morgantown will host its second annual GIS Day celebration on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The day will begin with a Geospatial Open House at Morgantown City Hall (389 Spruce Street), open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Attendees are invited to explore how the City’s Geospatial Services Division uses tools, technologies, and mapping applications to support daily operations and inform decision-making across departments. Representatives from West Virginia University’s Department of Geology & Geography will also be in attendance, showcasing their own GIS initiatives and collaborations.

In the evening, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., the celebration continues at WVU's Brooks Hall (98 Beechurst Avenue), in Room 325, with a series of “lightning talks” presented by local GIS professionals. These short presentations will offer an inside look into the dynamic world of geospatial science and the experts who make it happen.

Coordinated by the City of Morgantown’s Geospatial Services Division, this event recognizes the innovative applications of geographic information system technology in analysis, visualization, data collection, and strategic planning within municipal government.

Morgantown joins hundreds of organizations around the world in celebrating GIS Day, an annual event that showcases the transformative impact of GIS professionals and inspires the next generation of innovators to continue advancing global progress through geospatial technology.
