City of Morgantown Launches “Reuse, Repurpose, and Relove” Winter Coat Drive

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The City of Morgantown will host its “Reuse, Repurpose, and Relove” Winter Coat Drive from Jan. 5 through Feb. 5 to help local residents stay warm this winter. Donations collected during this period will be distributed to partnering social service agencies.

Community members are encouraged to donate new or gently used winter coats, items that are clean and in good condition to help ensure warmth and dignity for those in need, especially larger sizes and children’s sizes, along with hats and gloves. Collection bins will be located at:

  • Morgantown City Hall: Monday–Thursday, 7 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
  • Downtown Public Safety Building: Lobby hours, Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–6 p.m.
  • Morgantown History Museum: Wednesday–Friday, 11 a.m.–5 p.m.; Saturday–Sunday, noon–6 p.m.

  • Wiles Hill Community Center: Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

  • All three Morgantown Fire Stations: Open 24/7 (staff may be away responding to calls)

In addition, Morgantown City Ambassadors will collect donations from downtown businesses and community members while on patrol, typically Wednesday through Sunday, 9 a.m.–8 p.m.

City staff will organize all donations with the assistance of the Building Maintenance Division. Items will be sorted on site before distributing them to local social service agencies, ensuring every item is ready for use.

This year, contributions will support Catholic Charities, Lauren’s Wish and the Morgantown Community Kitchen. Additional organizations may request donations by contacting the city’s Communications Department.

“As we move into the winter season, needs are at their highest, but people are also making room in their closets for new items from the holidays,” said Shannon Davis, Special Projects Coordinator. “This drive gives the community the opportunity to declutter their homes while giving back to neighbors during the harsh winter months.”

City Manager Jamie Miller emphasized the importance of community involvement.

“Morgantown has always been a city that cares for its neighbors,” Miller said. “The ‘Reuse, Repurpose, and Relove’ coat drive is a simple way for all of us to make a real difference for families who need warmth and comfort during the coldest months of the year.”

Community members interested in contributing or learning more may email communications@morgantownwv.gov. To arrange a donation pick-up with the City Ambassadors, call 304-284-7522 ext. 7.
