City of Morgantown to Host Housing Affordability Exploration Sessions
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The City of Morgantown will hold a series of public listening, learning and exploration sessions in January to gather input on housing affordability policies and initiatives. The sessions are part of an ongoing effort to address housing challenges identified in the city’s 2020 Housing Needs Assessment and a 2024 City Council resolution prioritizing affordable housing.
The purpose of these sessions is to inform residents and stakeholders about local housing issues and discuss potential policies, programs and initiatives under consideration, and ultimately what is possible. Community feedback will help shape future strategies for preserving and developing housing in Morgantown.
“This is all about finding the right options for our communities,” said Rickie Yeager, Director of Development Services for the City of Morgantown. “We want to develop meaningful strategies that will have a positive impact. These sessions give us the opportunity to connect directly with the people who live and work in Morgantown, so we can develop solutions that truly reflect a shared vision.”
Tentative schedule:
To share ideas and gather input from the community, the Development Services Department will host two work sessions. The first session will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 14, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Marilla Center in Marilla Park, 799 E. Brockway Ave. The second session is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 22, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Woodburn Community Complex, 918 Fortney St.
Participants attending these sessions will have an opportunity to review highlights from the 2020 Housing Needs Assessment, as well as review and provide comments on potential policies, programs and initiatives being considered to address attainable housing. Feedback collected during these sessions, along with input from other stakeholder groups, will be summarized in a report for City Council in the first quarter of 2026. The report will also outline potential action steps going forward.
