City of Morgantown Issues Winter Weather Alert Ahead of Weekend Storm
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The City of Morgantown is urging residents to avoid travel this weekend as significant ice and snow accumulation is forecast to impact the region.
City officials report that Public Works crews are fully staffed, equipped and prepared to respond to the storm. Crews will pre‑treat roads throughout the city on Friday, Jan. 23, 2026. Additional personnel will report Saturday Jan. 24, with teams on standby as conditions develop. From Sunday, Jan. 25 through Monday, Jan. 26, Public Works will operate two 12‑hour shifts to provide continuous plowing, salting and emergency response.
The city’s snow plan is active, with major arterials and high‑traffic streets designated as Priority 1 routes. Secondary and residential streets fall under Priorities 2 and 3. More information is available at morgantownwv.gov/496/Snow-Plan, and a road ownership map can be viewed at arcg.is/1Ti1qv3.
Meagan Deeley, Deputy Director of Public Works, urges residents to stay off the roads as the storm approaches.
"Please remember that salt becomes less effective at lower temperatures, and our crews will be plowing roads based on established priority routes while also assisting first responders when accidents occur," said Deeley. "We strongly encourage residents to avoid driving and to use off‑street parking whenever possible to help our crews improve snow‑removal efficiency."
Residents are reminded that property owners and managers are responsible for clearing sidewalks adjacent to their property within 24 hours after the storm ends. Those unable to shovel may contact the Morgantown Code Enforcement Department at 304‑284‑7401 or submit a request through Morgantown 311 at seeclickfix.com/morgantown or download the mobile app.

Mountain Line Transit Authority buses will operate until 6 p.m. The Access Pass Program provides free transportation for essential needs, with passes available at the Morgantown Public Safety Building (open 24/7), City Ambassadors and the Morgantown Public Library.
