City of Morgantown Celebrates Municipal Government Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The City of Morgantown will celebrate Municipal Government Week from Oct. 14 to 20, 2024. This week-long occasion will highlight the vital role of municipal services in our community and honors the dedicated leaders and citizens who contribute to the city’s success.

A variety of activities will be held throughout the week to engage citizens of all ages. On Oct. 17, from 8 a.m. to noon, North Elementary School students will enjoy a Touch-A-Truck event at which they can explore various city vehicles and learn about the essential services they provide.  Last year, this event was held at Suncrest Elementary School and due to the positive response, the city now plans to rotate the event among different schools each year.

Additionally, children are encouraged to participate in the City of Morgantown’s coloring contest and “If I Were Mayor” essay contest. The submission deadline is Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024, and winners will be recognized publicly in November. For complete rules and instructions, please visit the City of Morgantown Communications Department page.

Throughout the week, children ages 2-16 who visit City Hall with a parent or guardian will receive a complimentary goodie bag filled with information from various city departments. Our staff members look forward to greeting families and providing them with information about city services. The goodie bags will include items supplied from the Morgantown Police and Fire Departments, Morgantown History Museum, Public Works and Engineering Department as well as some items from community partners like BOPARC and the Morgantown Public Library.

"Civic education is paramount to a thriving community,” said Mayor Joe Abu-Ghannam. “We warmly invite everyone to join us during Municipal Government Week to learn more about our vibrant city and how they can get involved."
